Turkish Barbering Brought to Penzance
Selo Turkish Barbers was opened on Market Jew Street, Penzance, in 2019 by Selahattin "Selo" Kilic — a Turkish barber who set out to bring proper Turkish barbering to Cornwall.
The Penzance shop is registered with Companies House as PENZANCE SELO TURKISH BARBER LTD (#14367647), and Selahattin has been the sole director since incorporation. Since 2019, the shop has built a 132-review reputation on Google with a 4.7-star average — the kind of rating that only comes from steady, repeat customers who keep coming back.
The point of the shop has been the same from day one: do Turkish barbering the way it is done in Turkey, not a watered-down "Turkish-style" version. Every chair is set up for the full service set — cuts, fades, hot-towel shaves with a cut-throat razor, proper beard work, the small finishing touches. We do the small things because they are part of what a Turkish barber does, not because they are an upsell.

Market Jew Street, Penzance
The shop is at 92 Market Jew Street — the east end of Penzance's main pedestrian shopping street, around two minutes' walk from the train station and five from the harbour. Easy to find, easy to walk to, and on the busiest stretch of high street in West Cornwall.
We are a walk-in shop, every day of the week. Mon-Sat from 8am, Sundays from 10am. No bookings needed — turn up, take a seat, and we will get you in the chair. The busiest hour of the week is usually Saturday around 1pm, so weekday mornings or earlier in the day on Saturdays tend to be quieter chairs if you want one.
The shop is wheelchair accessible. There is no on-site parking — closest is Wharfside Shopping Centre car park (around three minutes' walk) or the harbour car park (around five minutes' walk).

What Makes a Turkish Barber Different
Turkish barbering is not the same trade as English barbering. The training is different, the toolkit is different, and the expectations of what a haircut or a shave should include are different.
A Turkish barber typically learns the trade through a years-long apprenticeship rather than a short college course. The full service set — cut, hot-towel shave, beard sculpting, ear and nose tidy, post-shave cologne — is taught as a single, connected craft, not as separate "add-on" services.
Most importantly, the Turkish hot-towel shave is the centrepiece of the trade. It is a thirty-to-forty-minute sit-down ritual rather than a five-minute service, and the technique — pre-shave oil, two cut-throat passes in the correct order, hot and cold towels, balm, cologne — produces a closer, more comfortable shave than any cartridge razor or any quick wet shave. We have a full page on the ritual: read it here.
The point is not that Turkish barbering is "better" than every other style. The point is that it is a specific tradition, and you cannot recreate it without the right toolkit, the right technique, and the right amount of time in the chair. That is what we do at Selo — proper Turkish barbering, on Market Jew Street, every day of the week.

Common Questions
Who owns Selo Turkish Barbers?
+
The shop is owned and run by Selahattin "Selo" Kilic — a Turkish national, sole director of PENZANCE SELO TURKISH BARBER LTD (Companies House #14367647) since the company was incorporated in September 2022.
How long has Selo Turkish Barbers been in Penzance?
+
The shop opened on Market Jew Street in 2019. Since 2019, we have built up 132 Google reviews with a 4.7-star average and are one of three Turkish barbers in the local 3-pack for "barbers Penzance."
Are you a real Turkish barber?
+
Yes. Selahattin is a Turkish national and the shop runs the full Turkish service set — cut-throat hot-towel shaves, proper beard work and the finishing touches that define Turkish barbering. Not a "Turkish-style" English barber — a Turkish barber.
Do you do walk-ins or do I need to book?
+
Walk-ins only, every day of the week. Just turn up. Saturday around 1pm is our busiest hour — weekday mornings or earlier in the day on Saturday are usually quieter chairs.
Are you on social media?
+
Yes — Instagram @selo_turkish_barber_pz and Facebook (Selo Turkish barber penzance, 660+ followers). Both are good places to see the latest cuts and shaves we have done.
How can I support the shop?
+
The best thing you can do is leave us a Google review after your cut — we are aiming to be the highest-reviewed barber in Penzance, and every honest review helps. The second-best thing is to recommend us to friends.
